"First I'll get you to tell me what happened as best you can remember," Russell says, fishing into his pocket for the digital recorder he carries now to take statements. There are specific questions he'll have to ask if she doesn't answer them while she gives her statement, but he thinks it might be easier to just let her talk to begin. "Try to remember what time you went over there, how long might've passed while you were in his apartment, things like that."

He pauses, then says, "I know it's hard, but try to give me as much detail as possible. The more I know, the less someone else is gonna ask you to go over a second time."
