"Shotgun's easier at close range," Kara says without a pause. "You don't have to aim, much. But I understand." She's making sure the safeties are off even as they move at a pretty brisk clip, and just as sky turns a hint of dusky red behind all of the ash, it's impossible not to hear the slow drone that almost immediately swells to a wailing siren.

Freezing for a split second, Kara turns to try and find out where it's coming from, but it's so loud that it seems like it's coming from everywhere. "When you shoot someone," she half-yelled over the siren, because whatever the frak it is, she knows it's not good. "Visualize that you're shooting the space behind them. It'll help with breaking the 'I'm shooting another person' thing."

Just like that, the siren fades off, and in the next breath, Kara is almost sure that what she hears next can only be described as an 'inhuman howl.' Gods. "Frak. Guessing that siren's not an all clear."
